One Hectic Week

Sometimes life just gets the best of you....

Thats exactly what my last week has been.

It started off with a sick child a couple of thursdays ago, Little J had a random virus, sore throat etc,
so he was prescribed with the standard - antibiotics.

Come the Monday following, the tops of his feet are itchy and tiny red bumps started forming...... nothing too unusual we thought, probably the virus.

Tuesday - those red bumps look really inflamed now and it looks more like a reaction, like hives.....
and it's starting to come up on his knees?

Off to the doctor he goes...... doctors explanation:

The antibiotics prescribed, usually creates this type of reaction when a patient has kissing disease,
otherwise known as Glandular Fever!

Soooo, Wednesday followed with a blood test to confirm,
poor boy!

During all this Mike has been unwell, and after a doctor visit on Wednesday, he was told to go to the hospital to be checked over properly.... since the nearest hospital is a hour and a half away, Mike preferred to go the next morning -

Roll on Thursday...... we sent the eldest two to school, and took the youngest with us..... one windy road and one car sickness later..... a dash to the warehouse for fresh clothes, we then arrived in ED.

Luckily we didn't have long to wait before we were shown into a room.... but then after 2 hours waiting for a doctor and the nurse telling us we were third in the queue, and she couldn't give us any assurance we would be seen soon..... we walked out.

I know that sounds insane!
But our predicament was;  we needed to know whether Mike would be admitted and need surgery before I left him to pick up the boys from school, or he would be stranded with no car and no where to stay the night..... I could have left him picked up the boys drove back down and then back home....... but that would have been an extra 4.5 hrs of driving that I just didn't have in me.

Next day -  Friday, and this time we took all of the kids and started again...... while driving another child was sick......
but we were prepared for it.

We arrived at ED, were shown through to triage and our own room, again quickly.... only to wait for another 3 hours!
With the kids getting ants in their pants by that time, I left Mike to take the kids for lunch and a run around in the park.....
but that would be too easy wouldn't it?
Lets thrown in a child who has had a tiny accident in their pants!
by this time I realising its more than car sickness.

Whats a mother to do?..... no change of clothes, four kids in the car, and no friends or family in this city..... hmmmnnn.

Drive to Pak n Save underground parking and park where it is dimly lit and sort it out...... I managed to deal with it, tie a jacket around his waist, for the childs sake....
and carry on like it never happened.

All this happening while Mike was still waiting to see a doctor......
5 hours he waited! and by the time he was seen he was in surgery within half an hour!
From then on Mike said they were brilliant, the nurses were great and there were checks upon checks throughout.
Luckily I was able to pick him up the next day.
though another long wait, just for discharge papers! Arghhh!

But now the weekend is over and things look like they are slowly returning to normal, all boys are at school, Mikes on the mend....still waiting on blood results for little J, but I have been told he is okay to go to school.... so its just me and lil miss.

I have completed Middle B's shorts and Lil Miss Olearia Cardigan... so I will post soon..... until then, the house is a bombsite and I can't procrastinate any longer...... I'm off to clean!

Loving this week

This week my baby girl turned two

and from previous experience, in a blink of an eye she'll be five
and I'll be wondering where my little toddler went.

I'm already trying to remember my youngest boy as a toddler.. that just seems like such a long time ago.

So I am loving:

Simply Birthday cakes - my speciality

Home made gifts - this one was a collaboration

Bed - Mike
Mattress - Me
Blanket - Grandma

Creepy Doll eyes!

And homebaking to fill my tins -  Courtesy of Grandma

Oh and lastly - Ancestry.com.au .... completely addictive!
I have been able to track back one side of my family to the 1700's

My Creative Place - Sew September Day 6 and 7

I'm still working on those trousers... so nothing to show ... yet!

But I have started and finished this mattress for my
 lil misses birthday present

Mike made the bed

And I ironed on pellon to two sides of fabric before sewing together, then boxed the corners and stuffed, and tied.

Voila... a mattress!

I still have to paint something on the headboard, and I want to make a mini quilt for the bed... but until then......
Grandma came to the rescue with some of her granny squares

And lil misses reaction of ooohhs and aahhhs, followed with trying to climb in herself!......made it all worth it.

Sew September Days 4 and 5

So this is what I have been working on in the last few nights

It took alot longer than I thought it would

But I think it was worth it!

I started with a sketch

then cut

then a few nights infront of the tv, I sewed in a 28 gauge wire for more structure around the wings, and for the antenna's.

Then since I'm on a bit of a hairclip binge, I used this tutorial
and made a few more

Things I'm Loving in my week

Yay! Loving the sunshine... at that its spring in the air
Loving that I hang my washing outside
( yes never thought I would say that )

Loving waterplay

And even when its run off from the car being washed

Loving this man, and his achievements in the snow.... he is quite chuffed with how well he is doing,  and every wednesday I enjoy finding out what he learnt that day on the ski field

Also loving the beanie that I made for him for skiing and the way the crown decreases looks

Also aren't these creations just the cutest!
My dear friend turned up with these on craft night....
I just had to get a photo of them the next day....
 she is one talented lady

And lastly I'm loving Lil Miss and her sudden interest in the Mc Donalds song.... dah dah dah dah dah..... okay that may mean nothing to others, but I know thats the last tune on the end of the Mc D's commercials, and she copies it everytime.

Who said kids weren't their target audience!

Sew September Day 3

Day 3

Nothing completed yet!
But I have got atleast halfway through Middle B's trousers and learnt a number of new techniques along the way.

I am just about to put in my first front fly zipper.... so far so good!

Now its time to sit infront of the telly and do some more knitting..... or maybe finish of that project I started the other day.

Sew September Day 2

I have been looking everywhere for my overlocker power cord.... afterall if I am to do a bit a sewing everyday of September I would like to use my overlocker at least once.... that and its the reason I haven't finished Middle B's trousers.

This week I've been trying to retrace my steps, search my deep receases of my memory of where I may have put it. Obviously it was stashed somewhere in a rushed clean up!
So today I tried again, this time having a real " mothers look" sometimes searching 3 times in the same place.

Then fed up I decided my craft cupboard which was spilling out into all corners of the bedroom needed some attention.   My fabric was all refolded and packed away, patterns gathered together, and odd bits and pieces put back in their rightful place.... I closed the cupboard satifsfied.  I glanced up above......  and there it was! peaking out amongst bags of random junk.... yay! my overlocker cord!  Ha Classic!

So hopefully I can put a smile of my boy with a finished pair of trousers by the end of this weekend.

As for today......

My Creative Space

Well it's official!
First day of spring and the first day of Sew September
After reading Green Valley Crafts blog the other day I have taken the plunge and decided to join in here with the pledge....
Sew a little a day for every day of September.

So here's my first project
A bit of spring and a quick satisfying project

Tutorial from here

Most of it was made while waiting for the boys at pick up time.
I get there early everyday, just so I can get a park nearby....
and yip I have them well trained and they come to me...
so I guess you could say I'm lazy, I like to think sneaky!
It saves me rushing between 3 classrooms and I
get a bit of craft time before all the chaos

So this is Day One done.....
Now I'm looking forward to trying to squeeze in a bit of sewing everyday for the next 29 days
